26th April 2026, 600 Yards

It was the final shooting Sunday for the month of April, held at the 600-yard mound. With cooler autumn weather, conditions proved to be quite difficult throughout the day. Shooters faced light to moderate winds switching from left to right, alternating sunshine and overcast, and heavy mirage—all of which challenged shooters’ ability to read the condition. Despite these tricky conditions, two competitors' shot possible, each achieving the same score of 105.13 in their respect

This morning we were on the 400 yard mound, with 22 shooters. The wind was very unpredictable as some shooters started with a fantastic score but were dusted up in the 2nd round. We only had two shooters showing us how it was done, with max scores. John C in F Open and Ian G in Sporter Production and Greg H only dropping one shot for a max score. Greg H is doing very well with his new barrel. Well done to all. Results F Open John C 126.10 Kevin B 125.16 Geoff V 123.8 Br

As it was the fifth Sunday of the month we had a Fly Shoot shooting on the 500 yard mound. We had 14 shooters and we all had a laugh. Conditions weather wise weren't ideal but I think we all enjoyed our time at the range. When you relate the target rings to the 500 yard target we didn't do too bad with our scores. Kevin Jones calculated that if you had a score of 160 or more you would have shot a 126. In F Open class John had a very good score of 172.3 to be our winner of

Well what can I say. It was horrendous trying to shoot today. We had wind blowing in all directions. Most found it very hard to read the wind and mirage. The scores tell the story. Today we were shooting on the 600 yard mound. We had 15 shooters, including three new men trying their hand at target shooting. We hope they enjoyed the time they had with us. The Winner of today's F Open was Richard with 124.9, Jamie F with 100.4 in Sporter Open and Carl R in Sporter Prod

We have a new Shot Marker range system. They arrived Friday afternoonand thanks to Richard and Neil we have them up and running for our competition today. We had some visitors to the range on Saturday and they thought we had a very good shooting complex. As the wind was very very strong yesterday, we were happy to wake up today and see that the wind had settled down somewhat. It was still not easy to shoot a perfect score. Three shooters in Sporter Open did. John, Carl

It was great so see 16 shooters today as the BOM told us we were going to have a very rainy day. We were able to get our shooting in before the rain hit us at the range. Conditions were good with a slight breeze making it a little challenging for most of us. We shot on the 400 yard mound. Winners in the respective classes are as follows. F Open Kevin B 126.17, Sporter Open Femy 105.12 and Sporter Production Ashleigh 105.11 Our new targets have arrived in Australia and we

It was the first day of Autumn, and we could certainly feel the season beginning to change — from the heat of summer to a refreshing, cool morning breeze. Today’s friendly match was held at the 300-yard mounds, with 19 shooters competing across their respective disciplines, all tackling the breezy conditions. We had four categories of competition, and three of them produced perfect scores — an outstanding achievement. Congratulations to the following shooters who recorded per

It was a fair and pleasant day to kick off shooting at the 600-yard mounds. The morning began under clear skies with slightly warmer temperatures, before clouds gradually rolled in as the day progressed. A total of 17 shooters took part across their respective disciplines. Light winds and occasional mirage effects made conditions a little tricky at times, keeping everyone mindful of their technique. Despite the challenges, some excellent scores were recorded. While no perfect

What a morning we have had today. Firstly the sun was trying to shine, then the clouds arrived and finally the rain fell. The wind was unpredictable as usual so not many perfect scores. Femy and Jeff in sporter classes were able to read the wind perfectly as they both had 105. Richard was the winner in FOpen with 125. Well done to you all. We had 20 shooters this week shooting on the 500 mound. It is great to see how our small club is growing. Thank you to everyone w

The sun was shining for us today with a tricky wind change every now and then. Some of us saw it and some of us didn't. Mirage came and went which didn't help. We had three first time shooters today. We hope you enjoyed your time with us. We had one shooter Ashleigh who didn't drop a shot. Well done Ashleigh. Being your wedding anniversary must help as you and Jeff were winners of your classes. Even if Jeff shot in another class so he could win a class ( just joking Je

We had 19 shooters today shooting on the 600 yard mound. The weather was very switchie with the wind coming from the North, South, West and East. Making it very hard to read the wind. Femy C didn’t have any trouble shooting 105.12 out of 105.21. Fantastic shooting Femy. The F Open shooters had a little more of a challenge as the top shooter in F Open was Richard McK shooting 123.7. Good shooting Richard. Other good shooters today in F Standard were John C 119.4 and Jeff

It was a very interesting day to shoot this morning. The rain came and we sheltered until the blue sky appeared. We had 19 shooters today. In that count we had two visitors come along and tried their hand at 500 yards. In F Open we had a three way tie. Kevin B, Richard McK and Hayden A all having 126.14. In SO (sporter open) Rod W had a perfect score of 105.13 and in SP one of our visitors Genaya G won with 104.10. Next week we shoot 600 yards. Please be at the range

What a day for shooting. We had very few perfect scores today as the weather Gods thought lets make it difficult to shoot perfect scores. We had wind from four different ways. The boiling mirage was very interesting for us. The two shooters who didn't find it difficult were Femy C and John C. with a top score of 105.15 in PCO. Femy winning on a countback. John was very proud of his wife. Great shooting, both of you. Winning in F Open was Hayden A with 125.14 and Ashle

Happy New Year Southern Downs Shooter. I hope everyone enjoyed their New Year. We shot on the 300 yard mound with 16 shooters. The cloud cover was helpful but the mirage came in on the second round. We had a very close contest in PC with perfect scores from Richard McK and Jeff W on 105 max. score. Richard McK came out the victor as he shot 20 V's out of a possible 21. Jeff W shooting his first clean with 18 V's. Fantastic shooting both of you. Another clean shooter t

As this year is coming to a close and the jolly big red gentleman is reading his list. We at the Southern Downs Rifle Club had our Christmas shoot. We were shooting on the 500 yard mound. We had 25 shooters and we were trying a new event with 3 rounds of 10 shots. Some of us had trouble concentrating for the third round. We had some very good scores with very tricky conditions. Well done Hayden A winning in F Open, John C winning in F Standard, Jeff W winning in PC and F

Today we had 17 shooters. It started with a short rain shower then the ground heated up with the sun and cloud cover. Shooting was quite tricky. Some of us had trouble reading the wind. Our Club Champion didn't have as much trouble as some. Well shot Kevin B only dropping one shot in F Open. It must have been the day of the Kevins as Kevin J won F Standard. Husband and wife duo shot in different classes this week. That way the family can relax without having to hear ho
